A horizontal spiral sedimentation centrifuge, commonly known as a decanter centrifuge, is an efficient piece of centrifugal separation equipment designed for continuous solid-liquid or liquid-liquid-solid separation. Based on structure and function, decanter centrifuges can be divided into horizontal spiral filter centrifuges and horizontal spiral sedimentation centrifuges.
The decanter centrifuge operates as a continuously working separation unit that performs sedimentation and automatic discharge of solids through a horizontal screw conveyor.
Working Principle
In a three-phase decanter centrifuge, the bowl and the screw conveyor rotate in the same direction but at a controlled differential speed. The feed material enters the rotating bowl through a feed pipe and is accelerated by the screw conveyor before distribution into the bowl. Under the influence of a strong centrifugal force field, the denser solid particles settle against the bowl wall, forming a solid layer.
The screw conveyor, rotating at a slightly different speed, continuously transports these solids toward the conical end of the bowl, where they are discharged through the solids outlet. Meanwhile, the lighter liquid phases form concentric liquid layers. The heavier liquid phase (typically water) is discharged through adjustable ports, while the lighter phase (such as oil) overflows through a separate outlet at the large end of the bowl.
